Al Jazeera says reporting team detained in Libya

Sat Mar 19, 6:45 pm ET
CAIRO (Reuters) – Al Jazeera television said on Saturday that the Libyan authorities had detained one of its reporting teams several days ago when working in west Libya.

The channel said, in a report on its website, that the team included two correspondents, one Tunisian and another Mauritanian, and two cameramen, one Norwegian and one British.

An Al Jazeera official said the Qatar-based channel held the Libyan authorities responsible for the team's safety and said there were regional efforts to secure the team's release.

Four New York Times journalists were captured by Libyan forces last week while covering the conflict in the east of the country and the newspaper has said they will be released.
